Sketch Play: The Wedding

Now that I have a new scanner, I can post more Sketch Play images.  Back in April 2010 I began painting small watercolors in a 10″x7″ sketchbook I titled “Take Joy”.  Lots of flowers, animals, leaves, children.  The goal was to keep the hand and mind active and to keep putting color to the page.  Sometimes I had the three-dimensional object in front of me (the flowers).  Sometimes I had a photographic reference (the children).

In 2011, I started the 2nd sketchbook titled “Sketch Play”.  I looked to other illustrators for inspiration as I searched for MY more playful side.   Then the year got busy, the compositions more complicated, and the habit of drawing every day came to an end.  I finished these two wedding images back at the beginning of September.

My creative release does continue to come out in other ways though.  I’m writing more, experimenting with needle felting, gathering ideas for the holidays.

I miss the days of take joy and sketch play.  But the season has changed and I must believe that those feelings will come back.  Believe.  Gather what you need.  Move forward.

I’m apparently following your lead and have been trying to do some drawing everyday. Now I find that I lay awake at night thinking of what I want to do the next day…just too tired to get up at that moment to do it.
