Do you ever fight with your muse? You know, that voice inside that wants you to create something, or write something, or do something that’s so very impractical and seemingly unimportant in the big scheme of things, but really is.
There have been times in my life that I’ve tried to squash that voice but it hasn’t worked for long. Now, I balance the practical with the impractical. And, I’ve come to trust that inner spirit guide of mine and to follow wherever she leads without judgment.
Making a doll is one of my latest projects. My interest re-ignited with that little doll I rescued from the antique store back in January. Then Son #2 invited me to go with him to the Swap Meet where I found old lace, old garments, old treasures, at a low price. The hand stitched clothes are lovely with tiny tucks and lace inserts. Here’s a few photos to give you an idea of the details:
I hope the handcrafted labor is clear in these photos. I find inspiration and will share my dollmaking journey in future posts. FYI: A swap meet is like a giant garage sale. The one we went to sets up in the parking lot of a junior college. My son bought some tomato plants and a small Japanese Maple tree for his patio.
sometimes, “The heart wants what the heart wants.” 🙂 Don’t be afraid to chase those rainbows. You never know where they will take you. ❤
All different ways to stay inspired!
And these linens are gorgeous!
The photos don’t even do justice to the handmade details. The one with the colored threads has tiny french knots.
I love the details in those old clothes. It reminds me of the ‘smocking’ my mom did on my dresses when I was a little girl. 🙂
I’ve never tried smocking but hope to. The details are lovely. Not sure what I will do with the fabrics yet….
Beautiful thoughts and pictures. 🙂
Not sure why this is important, but it is.
