Focus on 2018

Esalon Big Sur 2015Happy New Year!    I’m still re-reading my journal from last year and still clarifying my intentions for 2018. Some goals carry over from last year.

First focus is on TIME.  Commonly known, there are 24 hours in a day making 168 hours in a week.  First question, How am I spending my time?

My most notable experience last year was going to the Women’s March I Was There!.  I also participated in art shows, took several classes, attended two writers workshops, worked part-time, watched my grandsons, traveled to Cambria and San Luis Obispo.

I read the following books:
Quiet by Susan Cain
Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly
Chasing Matisse by James Morgan
Without Reservation and Educating Alice by Alice Steinbach
M.C. Higgins, The Great by Virginia Hamilton
The Wednesday Wars by Gary Schmidt
Money, Master the Game by Tony Robbins

Hours in a year:  8736.  I can and will do more in 2018.

Next, I need to get rid of limiting stories.  Last summer I was moved to write twenty short pieces of flash fiction.  I made a list of life changing events that had occurred in my life.  The shortest was 300 words and the longest about 900 words.  In order to release pain, I had to face my pain.  All of the twenty were of painful memories.  In 2018, I want to write about the life-changing events that were profound and happy.  I want to look forward, not back.

Find strategies that work.  This goal has to do with focus and organization.  January is the month to clutter clear.  I’ve already cleaned my bedroom, found clothes to pass on, gotten rid of all the piles that accumulated in my room last year.  This goal is on-going but I am getting smarter about it.  More often, I jump in, get it done, and free up time for other activities.

Focus on Health:  Exercise more, eat nutritious food, get my check-ups……

Here’s a quote for today.

“Where focus goes, energy flows.”

I like this one too:

“There’s nothing like the power of the human soul on fire.”

Lovely quotes! I’m so happy to hear that you are exhibiting your work… talk about on fire! ❤

  3. I was on fire last year and hope that I can keep up the momentum and more in 2018. Best wishes.

  4. It’s all about focus, isn’t it! And positive thoughts. If I’ve learned anything, it’s how important it is to be positive – even when things seem impossible. Onward and upward!

  5. You are right! Positive mental attitude. Life is guaranteed to change, so being adaptable helps. And changing what we can change; and letting go of what we can’t change. Embrace life.
